Just Write it in the Calendar…

I was recently having a conversation with our Overflow planning team.  We were talking about the importance of consistency in worship and opportunities for spiritual growth.  The passage of Scripture we were to be experiencing that week in Overflow is Matthew 6:33, 34

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

One of our team members, Julie Williams (junior Architecture major) told us about her approach to prioritizing her spiritual life in the midst of such a time and energy consuming major.  She explained to us that worship at Overflow and attending a small group was so vital to her life that each semester she simply wrote it in her calendar for each week.  She adjusted her school and study schedule around it.  Thus she always made time for God’s Kingdom and Righteousness in her life.

I was so inspired by Julie’s approach to this that I wanted to share it with you and encourage you with the same.  God invites us to make him the very center of our lives:   seek him first, invite him into all of our activities and life components, and allow him to lead our daily lives.  My experience says that it does not happen unless one is regularly in a place to receive from God and respond to him in the midst of community.  Will you make that commitment also?  I encourage you to follow Julie’s example, where ever that place might be for you–write in Overflow, weekly church service, small group, or whatever else might keep you constantly receiving and connected with our priority, Jesus Christ.
